For goodness sake. Streamyx has gone down the shithole for the past week. Our house connection just couldn't access any international sites without having to wait ages for the sites to load up. Or they just won't load at all. How convenient that this happened just before Raya holidays. I'm pretty sure things won't get any better until their technicians decide to come back to work say a week after Raya.
Compared to other countries, Malaysia's broadband has been real sub-par for the past 12 months, which is unacceptable considering that we're the 2nd most highly developed country in the Asean region. Intermittent service, unconvincing tech support and many other complaints just gets more and more internet hungry netizens to cry for another ISP to come by and give them what they want: reliable, fast, low latency internet. But then again it's not like we're spoiled for choices. Jaring Broadband is wireless only, and their high latency just doesn't appeal to local gamers. There's Time Broadband, but they only cover areas such as Bangsar where normal joes like you and me don't live in. So we're stuck with Telekong who owns most of the telephone infrastructure of the country.
I'd like to think that Telekong's monopoly over the Malaysian broadband market has made them complacent. It's a matter of 'take it or leave it' for the customers, as we are left with next to no option but to give them our hard-earned cash for our internet fix. And what's worse, they're still getting customers by the truckloads every month through their marketing and advertising strategies. 'Come on, this is some nice big pasta for you dig into. But you can only eat it with a toothpick because you're sharing it with 49876907526309256 other hungry people. No more pasta? Well, our stove broke. How about you people wait while we get someone to fix the stove. Next month.'
I really wished that some other big corporations could see this as a huge opportunity to jump into the broadband market soon to stir up some competition(Maxis/Celcom, i'm looking straight and hard towards your direction), but as i see it, it won't happen overnight. Some people in high places just wouldn't let their ricepot get smaller, but imagine this: with smaller pots, less rice gets burnt. And you know what, i wouldn't mind paying twice as much as i'm paying for Streamyx now, as long as i could get a -little- bit more in terms of reliability.
TM, buck up. We're patient people, but hungry, angry, sick, and tired of your nonsense. With all that new subscribers coming in and the amount of money we gave you, i'm sure that you could maintain a reasonably reliable service for us.
This ends the rant of an internet addict.
